Ukiah, California

Yesterday we left Antioch and not a moment to soon! You see we lost power on Sunday morning and we spent a miserable day enduring the heat. Jim made the final adjustments to the bike rack and I just tried to stay comfortable.

Anne and Scotty have a generator so they were doing ok and I spent some time at their house reading magazines and chatting with Anne. By the time Jim finished his outside work it was 95 degrees outside! I made him take me for a drive just to cool off in the truck. We did get some fuel for our trip. Once back at the Campground I just sat in the truck and read my book.

Even Boo was uncomfortable! Poor critter didn't even want his dinner it was so hot. We cooked outside and earlier I had made a pasta salad. We joined Anne and Scotty inside their rig for dinner and we all had a good time enjoying the meal and the wine. Boo finally ate.

Just before dinner Scotty and Jim devised a way for us to have minimum electrical power by plugging into the Scott's rig and we were able to use the internet and run the fans.

It was still 77 degrees inside when we went to bed and despite the slight breeze none of us slept very well. Boo kept hearing things and bounding out of bed, barking. Not a good night!

By 0930 Monday we were on the road and driving out of the Bay area. It was slightly foggy and just the right touch for our final view of San Francisco! The first part of the trip was beautiful driving along watery bays and marshes. Then we got on highway 101 and headed north into wine country. Seeing all those vineyards just makes you want to stop and sample all the wine!

We drove straight through to Ukiah and we were here and set up by 1300. We're staying at the Redwood Empire Fair and Event Center campground. Grassy with some trees around the perimeter. They're doing some upgrading on the sites but we have 50 amps with full hook ups.

Once we set up we had some lunch then settled in. Jim took a nap and when he got up the four of us headed out to explore the area. According to Wikipedia Ukiah is ranked #1 best small town to live in California! And 6th best in the US! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukiah,_California

We did find a place to have a pizza and beer for dinner and it was really good! Back home I walked Boo then we all settled in for the evening. We had the AC running and as the sun set it cooled down considerably so we opened some windows and turned on the exhaust fans. When we went to bed it was 75 inside but 65 outside. During the night it dipped into the 50's and when I got up at 0615 it was 57 inside and 50 outside. time for the fireplace!

As we neared Ukiah yesterday we drove through a small town we plan to visit today. Looked like fun with wine tasting and a brew pub!

It's 0747 and almost time to wake Jim so I'll bring this to a close. Hope your day is a good one!
