San Francisco, California

Yesterday we were up and out of the house shortly after 0900! We needed to drive into Pittsburg (confusing, since we're in California!) to catch BART, Bay Area Rapid Transit. We parked the truck and since we'd already bought our rail passes we headed for the station and picked our train to ride into San Francisco.

I think the trip was just over an hour, up, down and through tunnels, even under the bay! We got off in Union Square and dropped in at the information center. There we got some useful information, maps and passes for the cable cars.

going down Powers Blvd
We headed down Powers Blvd and wandered around Fisherman's Wharf

We checked out the fleet and

saw the bridge

the view looking up was pretty neat!

Alcatraz....the day was gorgeous and many boats were in the harbour
We had lunch at a wonderful restaurant whose name escapes me but the food was delicious!
After lunch we strolled down to Pier 39 to see the sea lions

We spent quite some time watching and listening to all the Males trumpeting or chasing the females

The males are much larger than the females and have a 'crest'. Not sure why it's called a crest it looked like a bump to me!

We then headed to Ghiradelli Square to get some chocolate! We did get a freebie but we didn't buy any. It was so hot it would have melted before we reached the cable car.

this art deco was on the building across the street. Just beautiful! We caught another cable car and headed to China Town. Before we arrived there we came across a protest. Male bicyclists were protesting the use of Fossil Fuels by riding around in the nude! Those pictures are at the end of this post. So don't look if you don't want to see naked men!

Gateway to China Town. This street is mind boggling! You can buy any and everything from 50 cents to I'm sure thousands of dollars if not more. If you take the side streets you'll see more of the shops where the locals buy their everyday items.

It sure was colorful, even the street lights looked like lanterns with dragons wrapped around them.

The cable car stopped on this corner and everyone was able to get a look at every guy in this protest. Obviously they didn't mind being nude or they wouldn't have been out there. But some were posing and it was just hilarious to see this. Only in San Francisco!
