Fiesta de Santa Fe

This morning we slowly had breakfast and dressed to go to the Fiesta in Santa Fe. I'm not sure what time the opening ceremony was but we wanted to get there early enough to park our beastie. We found parking (9 bucks) and proceeded to stroll around.

Our first stop was St Francis Cathedral Basilica. Jim and I both took a gazillion pictures and I've spent the last 2 hour trying to upload pictures. I've put them all on Facebook and if you follow this link: http://tiny.cc/3SaAB you should be able to see them. I wanted to put a few here but after trying, twice, I give up. It's getting late and I'm tired. :)

The church is awesome and includes La Conquistadora, our country's oldest Madonna, dating from 1625. After we scrutinized all the public areas we exited and took pictures outside. The inside pictures were taken by Jim as flash photography wasn't allowed.

We then headed to the Plaza where we found Progresso Mexico! LOL Not really, but I'll bet 90% of the booths were jewelry. It didn't take long for us to go into overload. There were other crafts and we enjoyed looking at everything. In the plaza itself were the food vendors and most everything smelled great. We opted to have lunch at Rooftop Pizzeria. Jim crafted a yummy pizza for us with sausage, wild mushrooms, roasted garlic and kalamata olives. We washed it down with draft beer.

While wandering around we also went into a few shops. Again there is so much jewelry that after awhile it just got to be to much. After lunch we stepped outside and and hit a few more shops. We got to the corner and found a parade!

The Firemen and Police departments were honoring 911. Those pictures can be seen at Facebook. It was really neat to see all the fire engines.

There was continuous entertainment at the Plaza, Strolling Mariachis and some folks in costume. Turns out they were part of the re-enactment of the 'peaceful resettlement'.

We left the plaza and stopped at the French Bakery for a cold drink and dessert. Peach Crepe! not to bad. We then found another street with vendors and the Loretto Chapel. The Chapel has a spiral staircase that has no supports. Yes we took pictures, see them at Facebook.

It was a full afternoon and the sights and sounds of Fiesta are still with me. Colorful people of all ages enjoying a beautiful afternoon.
